A year ago today, the love of my life and best friend asked me to marry him. Less than six months from now we will be getting married. This past year has flown by and I cannot wait to be Jeremy’s wife! It’s crazy to think I will be taking on a new last name shortly. I thought today would be the perfect day to relive our engagement in the Bahamas on May 11th, 2017.
We flew to Ft. Lauderdale on May 10th in the evening to meet up with my parents and brother since they were coming from Louisiana and we were flying from Nashville. We woke up the morning of the 11th and got ready for breakfast downstairs at the hotel before driving to the tiny airport we were flying out of. Jeremy had never been out of the country before and since we live in Nashville, we don’t get to spend as much time with my family as we would like. (note: they’re the most fun people to travel with!) Needless to say, I was super excited for this week in Bimini with my favorite people.
My mother and I managed the find the only shop in the tiny airport and buy a few bottles of prosecco to start our day off right. This won’t come as a shock to anyone that knows either of us. Little did I know, we were just having a little pre-celebration of what was to come.
There were only ten of us on the seaplane to Bimini. I had never been on a plane that small before and landing in the water was one of the coolest experiences. If you ever have the chance the fly on a seaplane, do it! I was extremely distracted after landing in the water and didn’t think twice whenever I saw the photographer snapping photos of us getting off the plane. I love pictures and have TONS of photos hanging in our house so Jeremy knew that was the one thing I wanted with a proposal – photos.
My mom asked one of the pilots to snap a family photo of us in front of the seaplane right after we docked. As soon as we were done posing for the photo, Jeremy pulled me off to the side and got down on one knee. It’s kind of a blur from there, but I remember lots of tears and excitement from both of us and my family.
I love that Jeremy asked me right when we arrived (literally, we were on the dock and still had to clear customs) because we had the rest of the week to celebrate with each other and our family. We also got the chance to have an engagement shoot there on the island! Naleni, the photographer who captured the proposal, shot some beautiful pictures for us. It is so special to have these pictures hanging all over our home.
Within this year, Jeremy and I are getting married, my parents are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, and my grandparents had their 50th wedding anniversary. I feel incredibly blessed to have marriage role models like them in my life. November 10th could not get here fast enough! I cannot wait to be Mrs. Richardson.
